The designs of architects Paul Rudolph, FAIA and Charles Moore, FAIA have left a lasting impact on the world of architecture. A pioneering modernist architect, Rudolph was a prominent figure in the Sarasota School of Architecture while Moore was known for his pivotal role in shaping postmodernism.
Surrounded by their buildings and teachings in his life and career, architect Jonathan Parks, AIA has crafted his own diverse portfolio stretching from the northeastern U.S to Florida’s west coast. Parks shares his unique architectural journey, from early encounters with modernist architecture during childhood vacations in Sarasota, to a decade of mentorship under Charles Moore at Centerbrook Architects and Planners, to finally helming his own firm in Sarasota–restoring more Paul Rudolph buildings than any other architect in the world.
Parks shares his experiences saving the iconic Umbrella House and Sarasota High School Addition, and weaves lessons from the past with the promise of the future, designing and building for a challenging coastal environment.
Jonathan Parks’ designs advance architecture to support a better understanding of ourselves and our environment. He is Founder and Principal-in-Charge of SOLSTICE Planning and Architecture in Sarasota, Florida, whose projects have been recognized among the most sustainable in the nation and have received over 100 design awards in architecture, design, sustainability, and preservation.
