"Palm Springs Modern": A Look Back In Time To 1999
$18 (1 hr)
Join author Adele Cygelman and photographer David Glomb as they retrace their steps to 1996–98 when they set out to document the best examples of residential Desert Modernism. Hear about their conversations with Albert Frey, E. Stewart Williams and Donald Wexler as well as their encounters with Ambassador and Mrs. Walter Annenberg, Max Palevsky, Marjorie Edris, Luella Maslon, Bill and Clara Burgess and other original homeowners during this pivotal period in Palm Springs, when its midcentury gems were being rediscovered.
Their resulting book Palm Springs Modern was groundbreaking. It became an instant best-seller and, 25 years after its publication, is still in print, a remarkable achievement for a book that changed many people’s lives.
Adele Cygelman is a longtime magazine editor (Architectural Digest, Robb Report) and the author of Palm Springs Modern (Rizzoli, 1999/Rizzoli Classics, 2015) and Arthur Elrod: Desert Modern Design (Gibbs Smith, 2019). David Glomb is a longtime photographer whose work has appeared in numerous shelter magazines as well as Palm Springs Modern, California Splendor and Adobe Houses.
