Presentation, tour and lunch $100 (4 hrs)
Join Modernism Week and the City of Indian Wells in celebrating the Centennial Anniversary of the historic Cavanagh Adobe (H. Addison Sanders, 1922; Historic Landmark #1, Indian Wells Historic Preservation Foundation), just a short drive from Palm Springs. The Cavanagh Adobe is one of the oldest structures remaining in the Coachella Valley and it was extensively repaired, restored and given a new life by the current homeowners in 2011. Their unique story informs us about modernism's synergy with Spanish revivalism in the 20th century and identifies harmonious and unexpected commonalities.
This important 3-part event begins at Indian Wells City Hall (John Outcault, AIA, 1982) with welcoming remarks from City and Modernism Week officials followed by an informative presentation by the Cavanagh Adobe homeowners, Michael Burch, FAIA, & Diane Wilk, AIA, entitled “Midcentury Modern Meets Spanish Revival.” Guests will then drive one mile to the Cavanagh Adobe where you will have the opportunity to tour the interior and exterior of this beautifully restored residence.
Lunch is included. Immediately following the tour, enjoy a festive Mexican luncheon on the patio at local landmark restaurant, Don Diego’s of Indian Wells (literally across the street). Each guest will receive a commemorative booklet about the Centennial Celebration.
This event qualifies for 1 AIA/CES Learning Unit (LU).
