Supersonic: The Design and Lifestyle of Concorde provides a rare glimpse into the idealism, innovation and aspiration of building a better future as expressed through design for Concorde, the world’s only luxury supersonic airliner. When the first commercial Concordes zoomed off the runways in Paris and London in the late 1960s, crossing the Atlantic in just under three hours, they established a new standard for luxury flight. Powered by 38,000 pounds of thrust, the Concorde jet embodied the pinnacle of aviation technology and industrial design. It quickly became the preferred mode of transatlantic flight for superstars and business moguls alike. Now a closed chapter in history, Supersonic explores this vision of the future from our past, and the experience of traveling at twice the speed of sound in an environment framed by the likes of Sir Terence Conran, Andrée Putman, Raymond Loewy and Roger Excoffon. We’ll explore the full spectrum of Concorde’s world of design including rarely seen historical photography and firsthand contributions from the people who helped create the experience from take-off to landing and beyond, conceived in an era when the sky was no longer the limit.
