Details
Taj Mahal, a true legend in the music industry and celebrated worldwide for his remarkable talents as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and ethnomusicologist, has pursued and elevated the sounds of the American South, the Caribbean, Africa, the Hawaiian Islands. Rising to international fame in the 1960s, Taj has continually pursued his musical explorations, that have recently included Grammy winning collaborations with Keb’ Mo’ and Ry Cooder and his new chart-topping 2023 jazz album “Savoy.” The “Maestro” brings his world of music to the stage, performing with his quartet.

Inductions into the Blues Hall of Fame and receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association are just some of the many honors that showcase Taj's remarkable contributions. Despite the acclaim, Taj remains humble and committed to his craft. For him, making music means channeling the melodies and rhythms that he hears internally, allowing the music to flow through him. He sees himself as a conduit for the music, receiving the gift and sharing it with his audience.

Listening to Taj Mahal's music is like tapping into the roots of American music. It connects you to the raw energy of field hollars, the enchantment of early jazz, the soulful grooves of rhythm and blues, and the infectious rhythms of West Africa. Taj Mahal's music takes you on a journey through the diverse sounds and influences that have shaped the American musical landscape.

Joining Taj Mahal is Sona Jobarteh, one of the fastest rising stars in the world music scene today.  She is  hailed as Africa’s first professional female Kora virtuoso from any of the West African Griot dynasties, breaking barriers and challenging gender stereotypes. With her instrumental virtuosity and ethereal vocals, Sona and her band blend traditional music, blues and Afropop to create an original, hypnotic and spiritual sound that has graced concert stages, recordings and film scores, has sold out concerts worldwide, and viewed by more than 23 million viewers on YouTube.
