Preservation Mirage Presents: The Fairway Homes of Tamarisk Country Club
$150 (2 hrs)
Preservation Mirage presents a special tour of four midcentury homes at Tamarisk Country Club, demonstrating several decades of significant architecture and thoughtful preservation.
The earliest home is from 1957 and the latest is from 1981; all have spectacular views of the Tamarisk Country Club fairways. The 1957 Gummo Marx residence by Val Powelson has a soaring roofline that reaches 24' at its apex, supported by an 85' laminated beam that pierces the front and rear elevations. The Caldera-Ginsberg Residence, 1981 by John Evan, has interiors that were reimagined by Lance O’Donnell in 2000. This handsome modern ranch features extensive use of stone, carved redwood doors by Evelyn Ackerman, and geographic expressionist paintings by its current owner, a prominent artist. The 1959 Schulhofer residence by Robert Marx, possibly with input from Val Powelson, was in very poor condition when a Tamarisk Club member rescued it in 2018. The home has been thoroughly renovated and the current owner has enhanced the contemporary interiors with midcentury appointments and furnishings. The 1972 Rubinstein residence by William F. Cody, his final commission, is a compelling example of his later work. The client wanted a hacienda style home at odds with Cody's desert modern style. The result is a long and low solid stucco façade, a terracotta roof, a central open air tiled courtyard and dramatic floor to ceiling windows facing the fairway.
