A dynamic exploration of mid-late 20th century Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through the lens of the built environment, art, and cultural spaces, from the high profile and iconic to the lesser known, with remarkable stories continuing to unfold. In a city infamous for its top-down urban renewal implemented at midcentury, projects at the time materialized by and supporting diverse creative individuals, smaller neighborhoods, interpersonal connections, and community efforts merit closer consideration and celebration.
Brittany Reilly is the founder of the Pittsburgh Modern Committee, advocating for the appreciation of the region’s 20th-century modern and postmodern architecture, public art, and design histories and offering unique programming and ground up initiatives to engage a growing audience in extant and at-risk sites. Since 2018 she has served on the Board of Directors of Preservation Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization committed to the city’s built heritage. Brittany is the Executive Director of the deRoy Gruber Foundation and collection, representing the creative legacy of artist Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918-2011) through exhibitions and special projects.
