Desert Lanai 4: A Charles Du Bois Desert Community
$55 (1 hr)
Come tour Desert Lanai 4, an intimate condominium community designed by famed midcentury architect Charles Du Bois built through four phases (the first started in 1961). The entire complex spans nine acres and offers numerous amenities and four pools amid its 82 units. Desert Lanai 4, the subject of the tour, was built in 1966 and consists of sixteen single-story condos surrounding a generous pool, enhanced by colorful desert landscape and the eponymous lanai. Several units will be shown on the tour.
Witness the architectural detail that has become synonymous with Du Bois: the A-frame roofline, extending from the peak all the way to the ground. Alternately referred to as Alohauses for the Hawaiian and Polynesian influences, these visually arresting desert dwellings have become coveted trophies. Additional midcentury modern classic features include breeze block dividers between the properties and natural stone facades on every unit. Each home has adapted to their own personal lifestyle.
