Details
In this enthusiastic, funny, and informative presentation, artist Danny Heller will whisk you away to the sunny Southern California suburbs, leisure activities, and car culture that has come to fill his bright paintings of an optimistic era. From Googie to Tiki, with plenty of Palm Springs architecture thrown in, come see how the artist captures the lasting influence of the Modern environment and hear fantastical stories that are sure to amaze and inspire! Through slides and video, Danny will discuss the architecture that draws him in, the challenges in rendering such works of art, the history of his subjects, and the obstacles of the Contemporary Art World. Be prepared to delight in the atomic architecture of the LAX Theme Building, exotic Polynesian-pop hotels, Elvis' Cadillac, and desert swimming pools galore!
Having exhibitions in Madrid, Paris, NYC, and LA, Danny Heller enjoys bringing his sunny slice of retro life to adoring fans around the world, and has even collaborated with SoCal institutions Disney and In-N-Out Burger. He is a trained artist, but has also taken insight from living in and around midcentury architecture, including John Lautner’s Living Units (now The Lautner Compound) in the Coachella Valley. Heller has been featured in Cosmo and Vogue, in addition to Dwell, Atomic Ranch, Juxtapoz, and American Art Collector. His work can also be found in institutions such as the Long Beach Museum of Art, the Hilbert Museum in Orange County, and locally, at the Palm Springs Architecture and Design Center.
