Details

The Historic Tennis Club Neighborhood (HTCN) is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Palm Springs and is surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains. It was named after the Palm Springs Tennis Club that was founded in 1937 by pioneer Pearl McCallum McManus.  It offered accommodations, tennis courts and a palm circled pool.  At the time the original circular pool was the most photographed in the world.  In the 1880s it was owned by San Francisco Judge John McCallum who unsuccessfully tried to develop agriculture here.  The neighborhood borders Tahquitz Canyon with access to popular hiking trails. One of the first churches in town was built in the neighborhood in 1936.  There are eleven structures within the HTC boundaries that are found in the historic registry. “The neighborhood’s charm is its eclectic mixture of 400 homes, condos, apartments, inns and restaurants – many surrounded by historic stone walls.  There is even an Indian burial ground.” Newer construction in the 50s, 60s, 70s and within the last ten years have expanded from Spanish style architecture to include representations of midcentury architecture.  These homes have clean lines with minimalist exteriors.  The interiors have large open floor plans with magnificent floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.
