'Showbiz Comes To The Desert'

The Palm Springs Modern Committee is delighted to present “ShowBiz Comes To The Desert“ featuring local luminary, historian, co-founder of PS Modcom, co-owner of Modernway with his wife Joy Ryan and preservationist extraordinaire: Courtney Newman.
Ever since Courtney first came to the desert with his grandparents in the 1960s, he has been obsessed by the classic entertainers who – from the 1950s through the 1970s – made the Palm Springs area their resort of choice. With his years of research and personal interaction with many of these celebrities, Courtney will share stories, fables, and most of all film and television clips from the golden age of Showbiz when some of America’s most talented and often funniest stars brought their larger-than-life personalities to the desert.
Says Courtney,“The midcentury modern architecture of our desert cities is only part of the story of what made this such a magical place. The creative people who commissioned and lived in these works of art were a story unto themselves!”
The Palm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of Desert Modern architecture and design.
