Raymond Loewy: What a Life!

French-born Raymond Loewy was one of the most important industrial designers of the 20th century. He started his career as a fashion illustrator in New York but when the firm Gestetner asked him to redesign their copying machine, his career as an industrial designer took off.  That career spanned many decades and he went from designing passenger trains to designing the interior of a NASA capsule. His work encompassed many areas, from transportation to household goods and many, many logos.

Even now, you see his designs every day, when you go to the post office or when you buy Shell gas. At the height of his career, he employed over 140 designers, architects and draftsman. His ties to Palm Springs are through real estate when Albert Frey designed a house for him in the mid 1940s, adjacent to the Kaufmann house which was designed by Richard Neutra the same year. He famously designed the Studebaker Avanti there.

This event is for ages 12 and older.
The entrance to the Annenberg Theater is located behind the Annenberg Theater Box Office, adjacent to the Palm Springs Art Museum's North Parking Lot.
Ample free public parking is available in the multi-level public garage across from the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Handicap parking is available. This event is wheelchair accessible.
