Making Modern: The Art of Aaronel deRoy Gruber

Discover the art and life of artist Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918-2011) a prolific, pioneering female artist whose vibrant, volumetric Plexiglas sculptures and jewelry, and striking screenprints and canvases brought her recognition as a multifaceted modernist visionary throughout the mid-20th century, in the United States and internationally.
Exclusively for Modernism Week, this talk is presented by Brittany Reilly, Executive Director and Curator of the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation, Pittsburgh, and will showcase artworks from their collection, unique vintage archival material, artist notes and sketches, and a range of projects celebrating modern art in modern spaces.
A special exhibition of deRoy Gruber's sculptures and screenprints at artist Gary Wexler's studio will open with a reception on Sunday February 19th and gallery hours through the week. These events continue a celebration of deRoy Gruber's West Coast connection - her work was exhibited in Palm Springs in 1972 at Nelda Linsk's Galerie du Jonelle in collaboration with renowned designer Arthur Elrod, and more recently during Modernism Week 2022 at Trina Turk's flagship boutique. aaronel.com
