El Rancho Vista Estates Home Tour
$85 (1 hr) — 8 Homes on this tour
The original sales brochure for El Rancho Vista Estates offered a "Good Palm Springs Life" and "Fun in the Sun!" That vibe is still alive today in this self-contained neighborhood of cul-de-sacs just east of the Palm Springs Airport. Compact homes with brightly colored doorways, striking desert landscaping and breeze-block carports transport you to sunny California of yesteryear.
Built between 1959-1962 by Chicago developer Roy Fey, who introduced the condominium concept to the desert, El Rancho Vista Estates offered three models: The Bermuda, The Capri and The Casa Blanca (each customized by their owner.) Architects Donald Wexler and Richard A. Harrison created a community of simple modernist bungalows and low-slung ranch homes that were affordable to middle class families looking for a vacation getaway.
Today, this time-capsule neighborhood is remarkably intact with most homes restored to their original footprint and floor plans. Some even feature the sunken Roman tub which was sold as an upgrade. This easily walkable hour tour has a relaxed ambiance and community feel.
