Details

Tour the oldest existing home in the Deepwell neighborhood, built in 1935. This home is rarely open for tours so don't miss your chance to see a spectacular blend of adobe block, ranch style historic details and beautifully executed modern updates. The perfect blend of old and new.

This historic "Desert Modern Ranch" style home sits on a huge, double lot in the heart of the highly desirable Deepwell neighborhood  in South Palm Springs. It has a rich history, having been designed by architects Albert Frey and John Porter Clark for the socially prominent businessman, Alger Shelden of Detroit, Michigan.

The Shelden family had been regular guests at Smoke Tree Ranch and loved the style and architecture so much that they wanted their own home in Deepwell to reflect those same design ideas.

The Sheldens reached out to John Porter Clark and worked with his team to design this spacious, warm home.

The low-slung block structure had seen few updates throughout its history and had fallen into some disrepair due to "deferred maintenance" over the past 20 years. The current owners saw the potential of  the huge lot along with the era-defining character of the home's block walls and worked with designers to give it a contemporary aesthetic while respecting the heritage and architectural significance of the house.

Your ticket purchase helps support the Palm Springs Architectural Alliance dedicated to stewarding the legacy of architectural excellence into the future.
