A Case Study in Authentic Restoration of a Spanish Colonial Revival Home Tour
$35 (30 min)
"There is no substitute for authenticity" is the mantra of Martin Newman, historic, architectural restoration specialist in describing the three year project to restore his client's 1946 Spanish Colonial Revival home to its original glory. Mr. Newman will direct the tour focusing on the home's faithful restoration. Authentic tiles from the Catalina and Malibu tile companies, Gladding McBean garden pottery, Monterey furniture, wrought iron lighting fixtures, some sourced from the fabled Desert Inn as well as notable plein air fine art of the period including works from Stephen Willard will be highlighted on the tour. The home is replete with period details that elevate this tour to a scholastic level. Mr. Newman's restoration talents have been employed by singer Bob Dylan at his Malibu properties as well as actress Katherine Ross, Don Henley of The Eagles and Robert Towne, screenwriter of the film Chinatown. This home tour is a case study in architectural restoration.
