Learn the beginning techniques of using dry pastel and understand negative space with Gianne. Participants will do several pastel exercises, then be guided to create an engaging pastel drawing of the surrounding grounds at Sunnylands.
Participants should bring the following materials:
Pad of pastel paper (tinted or not), optional size
A set of dry pastels (no oil pastel please)
Paper towels and wipes
This workshop takes place outside. Sun protection and water are recommended.
Instructor:
International painter Gianne de Genevraye paints public gardens in Europe and the United States. She is a contemporary nature painter, exhibiting widely with work seen in collections in France, Italy, Sweden and the United States. A California native, she lives in France and Laguna Beach with residencies at gardens around the world in between. Gianne’s focus is on painting in public gardens and exhibiting in public spaces. Gianne has embraced the concept of sustainability and is committed to help frame the discussion of conservation through the aesthetics of painting water wise gardens.
