Exclusive Exhibition Opening & Sunset Reception: ‘Growing Up Wexler: Life in the Wexler Family House’
$150 (2 hrs)
To celebrate the exhibition opening, an exclusive late afternoon reception, including remarks by Wexler family members, will take place in the 1955 Wexler family house, located in the Movie Colony neighborhood of Palm Springs. Ticket sales benefit the Wexler Archive at Cal Poly Pomona.
Enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine, and delicious hors d’oeuvres while mingling with other architecture enthusiasts, Wexler family members, and friends, to see what life growing up was like in a house designed by ‘dad’! This truly will be a rare experience not to be missed.
Each guest receives a limited edition, custom-designed commemorative ‘newspaper’ keepsake of the exhibition.
Exhibition: In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the house architect Donald Wexler designed for his family in 1955, a selection of personal photos, home movies, and memorabilia, shared with the public for the first time by Wexler sons Glen, Gary, and Brian, will be exhibited throughout the house and adjacent carport. Original sketches and architectural drawings will also be on display.
Curated by Brooke Hodge, this exhibition will provide a glimpse into the family life of one of Palm Springs’s quintessential midcentury Modern houses, designed by one of Palm Springs’s most notable Desert Modernist architects. While viewing the exhibition, guests will be able to tour the house, which is rarely open to the public.
The Donald and Marilynn Wexler Family Residence is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Palm Springs Class 1 Historic Resource.
The Wexler Family House will be open for ticketed tours on February 17, 18, 19, and 20. A special guest host will offer unique insights for each tour. Click HERE for details. Sponsored by perfumehead.com
