Cocktails and Conversations: An evening touring The Lautner Compound with architectural photographer Andrew Pielage
$100 (2 hrs)
Enjoy cocktails, meet the owners, and hear from celebrated midcentury architectural photographer Andrew Pielage.
This is a rare opportunity to view “The Lautner Compound” at night while you enjoy cocktails with owners and designers Tracy Beckmann and Ryan Trowbridge. As a bonus, guests will meet and hear from celebrated photographer Andrew Pielage, who will draw connections between famed American architects Frank Lloyd Wright and John Lautner.
In 1947, Hollywood movie mogul Lucien Hubbard commissioned John Lautner to create a master-planned community of multiple Lautner Living Units. Today, only the 4 prototype Lautner Living Units remain standing. Starting in 2008, they were impeccably restored and are now known as The Lautner Compound. Years ago while visiting Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s school of architecture in Arizona, the owners discovered a kinship with the school’s structures and their Lautner property. The likeness of materials and design features were beyond similar. For these reasons, they wanted to explore the connection more in-depth. They sought out architectural photographer Andrew Pielage, who is noted for his work photographing Taliesin West and over 500 Frank Lloyd Wright homes.
Join us for an exclusive presentation by renowned photographer Andrew Pielage as he explores the personal connection between two of architecture’s most visionary figures: John Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright. Discover how Wright, the master of organic architecture, mentored a young Lautner, whose bold, futuristic designs would go on to reshape modern architecture. This captivating session delves into the shared ideals and inspirations that defined their groundbreaking work—highlighting the influence of Wright’s desert laboratory at Taliesin West on Lautner’s visionary ideas for a master-planned community in Desert Hot Springs, California.
Through Pielage’s lens, you’ll explore the seamless harmony between architecture and nature that both architects championed while examining how Lautner’s fearless approach pushed Wright’s original concepts to new frontiers.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see Wright and Lautner’s legacies through the eyes of one of the foremost photographers of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. In addition to the lecture, guests can tour "The Lautner," which is comprised of the 4 incredible "Lautner Living Units." This is your chance to immerse yourself in John Lautner’s spectacular and visionary architecture.
